The Bahamas, officially the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, is an independent, sovereign, English-speaking country consisting of more than seven hundred islands.

The main island is New Providence, with the capital Nassau. The Bahamas is located in the Atlantic Ocean, southeast of the U.S. (less than 100 miles east of Miami).

Temperatures in The Bahamas are moderated by the warm waters of the Gulf Stream.

Because The Bahamas are close to the U.S. and more affected by its cold air systems, they are slightly cooler than other Caribbean islands, their summer temperature averaging 82F/28C.

If you enjoy outdoor activities, The Bahamas is ideal year-round. If you're adventurous, your days can be filled with fishing, sailing, kayaking, jet skiing, snorkeling, scuba diving, windsurfing, parasailing, kite surfing, and more.

If you're into golf, casinos, and nightclubs, you'll prefer the major islands. But if you're into an even more relaxed vibe of local bars and beach bonfires, you'll find yourself enjoying the Family Islands most of all.
